Senioritis
"The Breakfast Club for Today's Teens"

SENIORITIS is an edgy novel about a group of misfit high school teens from different backgrounds and popularity who wind up in an after school 3 to 5 p.m. program for various school infractions. They have to attend to their failings before they can graduate from high school. Each character writes his/her own journal why he/she is in the program and a caring mentor empathizes with their woes, encouraging them to solve their problems. During the course of a year this multicultural group melded. They not only performed a community service together by raising money with a concert in a mall to buy a bench there for a happy, but disoriented young boy to sit, but they also planned why, what, how the school principal should listen to what they had to say about his own teachers' inappropriate behavior. The biggest strength of this novel is that any low or high-level reader can pick up this book and find at least one character who they know, or who they actually are.
